Finally fixed a weird power cycling issue on a 2018 iMac after three days of checking everything else
It was a 27 inch model that would turn on for about 30 seconds and then shut off. I spent the first day thinking it was the power supply, so I swapped that out. The second day I was sure it was a heat sensor or the logic board. Turns out it was a single tiny resistor on the backlight circuit that had gone bad and was causing a short. I had to order the part and wait, so the whole thing took almost a week. Has anyone else run into something that simple causing a shutdown like that?

Wait, a resistor caused a full shutdown?

Yeah, @daniel552, it's always the smallest, cheapest part that takes down the whole system. Modern tech feels way too fragile sometimes.
