Helping a journalist with encrypted chat felt right until the backlash hit

I set up a secure app for a reporter in a place where speaking out is risky. Their stories got out, but then local people blamed the tool for spreading lies. Now I'm stuck between wanting to protect free speech and seeing how it can be twisted. Makes you question where the good really is in all this.

Sometimes the tools are just tools. The person using them decides what to build. You gave someone a hammer, and they chose to swing it. The backlash is on them for how they swung it, not on you for handing it over. Getting stuck in the middle of that blame game seems like a choice, not a trap. Maybe the good was just in the helping part, and the rest was always going to be messy.

Yeah, and then your good deed gets weaponized against you.

Feel like I've built whole careers for people by offering basic help one time. My over eagerness to fix things just creates a bigger mess to clean up later. Why am I like this?
