Had a draft horse with a bad quarter crack in Boise last Tuesday

The owner said it had been there for three months and kept getting worse. I ended up using a heart bar shoe with a full pad and some acrylic filler to take the pressure off. It was a long day, but the horse walked out way more comfortable. Anyone else have a go-to method for a deep quarter crack that just won't stay closed?

Yeah, had a real bad one like that last year. We used a special patch with fiberglass strands in the acrylic, and that finally held it shut for good.

Heard about a friend's horse with a similar stubborn crack. Her farrier tried a glue-on shoe with a special resin build-up, and that finally did the trick after months of trouble. Makes you wonder if the glue-ons just give that different kind of support sometimes, doesn't it?

Oh man, glue-ons can be a game changer for that. It's like the whole foot gets a different kind of lift, you know? Takes the pressure off the crack in a way a nailed shoe just can't. I've seen a few horses with those deep quarter cracks finally grow out clean once they switched to a good glue-on set-up. It just lets everything settle.
