My old boss told me to never use a rasp on a hot shoe. Tried it on a tricky quarter crack last month and it worked perfectly.

Guess that's why he's the old boss. Sometimes you just gotta ignore the rules and see what happens. Worked out for you, but I'd probably just make it worse.

Ignoring the rules is how most people get fired though. That old boss had a ton of experience to know when to break them. For someone without that, it's usually just a fast track to causing a real mess.

Wait your old boss said NEVER? That's a hard rule to break. I've seen guys mess up a shoe for weeks with the wrong tool. Getting it right on a quarter crack is pure luck, I wouldn't try it again.
