My old mentor saw me using a new rasp and said 'speed is fine, but accuracy is forever'.

It was during a tricky quarter crack job in Boise, and that line stuck with me all week. Anyone else have a saying that changed how you work?

My grandpa used to tell me "measure twice, cut once" while we were building stuff. It's the same idea, and it's saved me from a lot of dumb mistakes.

Wait, you were doing a quarter crack job in Boise? That's a super specific place to remember.

Man people get real deep with this stuff lol. I know a guy who swears by "take your time to go fast" and it sounds clever but half the time he's just slow and still messes up. @aaron677's grandpa had the right idea with measure twice cut once because that's actually practical. Speed vs accuracy gets blown out of proportion in most trades especially for a quarter crack repair where you're gonna be filing and refiling anyway. Overthinking a simple rasp job isn't gonna make you a better farrier.
