TIL a single misaligned post hole can cost you half a day
Spent 4 hours yesterday fighting a stubborn cedar post in a new subdivision lot, only to realize my string line had slipped at the first stake. Anyone have a foolproof method for keeping layout lines tight over long runs?

Ever try to build a deck with your brother-in-law who eyeballs everything? We spent a whole weekend on the frame before realizing it was a parallelogram, not a rectangle. The argument about pulling it apart with a truck is still brought up at holidays. Sometimes the simplest tools cause the biggest headaches.

Didn't a builder once say measure twice, cut once for a reason?

That "simplest tools cause the biggest headaches" line is so true. It's like when people skip the basics, everything gets harder. Robin_wright has it right with measure twice, cut once, but it's bigger than building. It's about rushing the simple step to get to the "fun" part, then paying for it later. I see it with my own DIY projects, always a mess when I don't check the level. Your truck story is the perfect example of a small mistake needing a huge fix.
