Hot take: My buddy insists we chat during furnace runs, but I think silence is safer.

He says talking keeps the mind sharp, I feel it splits focus. How does your shop handle crew chatter on hot jobs?

Imagine trying to debate the meaning of life while you're watching pressure gauges and listening for weird hums. My crew's rule is simple: keep the chat to pointing out readings or calling steps. Save the deep talks for when we're not standing next to something that can melt steel.

Honestly, your buddy has a point. A bit of steady chatter actually helps focus by fighting complacency. We've caught more than one weird pressure reading because someone was talking through the steps out loud. Dead quiet sometimes means minds are wandering, and that's not safe either.

Silence lets you hear the furnace tell you things.
