Appreciation post: The cheap fitness tracker I bought for $40 actually works
I saw all the hype about budget fitness bands and was sure they were junk. Last month, I got a Wyze Band on sale just to test it. After wearing it for two weeks, the sleep tracking matched my smartwatch almost exactly. The step count was also within 5% of my phone's pedometer. Has anyone else had a cheap gadget surprise them like this?

Actually, the step count being close to your phone is interesting because phone pedometers are often not that accurate either. They can overcount steps from arm movements when you're not walking. I've found the best way to check is against a manual count on a known distance. My old band and my phone both said I took way more steps on a drive than I actually did.

Wow, you just made me realize something. I always trusted my phone's step count more than my old fitness tracker. But you're right, I remember it counting steps when I was just chopping vegetables. That manual check on a known path is a really smart way to see what's actually accurate.

It's crazy how good the cheap stuff has gotten lately. My friend has a no-name band that even tracks heart rate zones during workouts pretty well. The gap between budget and premium is way smaller than it used to be.
