I finally tried that 'use your phone as a webcam' trick everyone talks about

I was setting up for a video call from my home office in Phoenix and my actual webcam just died. I remembered reading a review about using an old phone instead. I dug out my old Pixel 4, downloaded a free app called DroidCam, and had it working in about 10 minutes. The video quality was WAY better than my old 720p camera, and I could even use the phone's main camera for a sharper picture. It saved my meeting and now I just keep that phone on a little tripod as a backup. Has anyone else done this and found a better app, or is DroidCam still the go-to?

I used EpocCam for my old iPhone and it was solid. The wireless connection was a bit laggy for me though. Still a great free option to have.

That wireless lag sounds like a real pain for anything live.

It's a weird modern trade-off. We gain all this wireless convenience but often lose that instant feel. That tiny delay just kills the vibe for live music or gaming.
