DAE get mad when folks mix up granite and gabbro?
I was helping on a build where they used gabbro for steps and everyone kept calling it granite. It's not the same thing! Granite has that pink feldspar, but gabbro is dark and heavy. I learned to tell them apart by checking the crystal size. Gabbro's crystals are bigger and you can see them without a lens. Now I point it out every time I see it mislabeled. It might seem picky, but getting the rock right matters. How can we talk geology if we don't know the basics? Pick up a hand sample and learn this, it's key.

Honestly your bit about bigger crystals in gabbro makes total sense to me. I get the same way when people call any old wrench an adjustable spanner. Seeing the details is what lets you actually talk about the thing, you know? Kind of the same deal, makes sense.

Appreciate you getting it @claire64, but sometimes I wonder if we get too hung up on the small stuff. If someone uses the wrong wrench name but gets the bolt off, does the detail really change the outcome? Getting the general idea across often seems good enough for most daily talks. Making a big deal over crystal size or tool names can feel like picking nits when the main point is still clear. It's cool to know the specifics, but acting like it's a major error just slows down the actual conversation.

Read a piece once about how precise words are like having the right tool for the job. Sure you can force it, but it's smoother when the name fits the thing.
