That time a customer thought I could '3D print' a vintage part on the spot.

I had to explain that some things still need old-school craftsmanship, not magic.

Ugh, customers really think we have a magic box sometimes. Nothing beats real skill and time.

Picture this, @waderivera: a customer thinks we have a magic box that spits out perfect work every time. I mean, come on, where do they get these ideas? Idk, maybe it's just me but I've seen this so many times it's almost a joke. The real skill and time we put in is what makes the difference, not some imaginary box. They don't see the hours of practice and effort behind the scenes. It's sarcastic to even call it a magic box when it's all hard work.

Look, can you really blame people for thinking that way? We live in a world where you can order almost anything to your door in a day. It's not a crazy jump to wonder if making a part is just as fast. The idea of a 'magic box' comes from all the real tech that actually does amazing things now. When everything else is instant, expecting craftsmanship to be slow feels like the weird part to them.
