Update: I swore off fixer uppers after my first buy
The repair costs scared me, but learning to DIY small things changed everything. Anyone else pivot on a big real estate rule?

Actually, DIY isn't some magic fix for a money pit. Those hidden costs in a fixer upper can be brutal. Sure, you can learn small stuff, but major repairs like foundation or plumbing? Forget it. One wrong move and you're looking at a huge bill to fix your fix. It takes a certain kind of person with tons of time and skill to make it work. For most folks, swearing off fixer uppers is just smart.
