My solo trip to Spain made me rethink all our family vacations.
I just got back from two weeks alone in Barcelona, and it was nothing like the crowded, stressful trips with my siblings. I realized that family trips are more about pleasing others, while solo travel lets you actually enjoy yourself and grow. Why do we keep pretending group vacations are better when traveling alone is so freeing?

Remember that time my old work made us all go on a team building weekend? It was supposed to be this fun retreat, but we were stuck on a schedule made by someone else, doing things half the group hated. Sometimes you just want to wander off and see something by yourself, but the group pressure keeps you in line. Isn't it funny how any planned group trip, family or not, can feel like a chore? You spend the whole time managing what everyone else wants instead of actually seeing the place.

Why must group trips feel like chores, @pat_carter?

Yeah, pat_carter nailed the forced teamwork feel. Are family trips just a nicer version of that, where you're still stuck on someone else's plan?
