Think about sending your bank info or talking to your doctor. You wouldn't want that on a postcard for anyone to see. Encryption is just the digital lock on that envelope. Your coffee group is worried about the wrong thing, the risk is letting that lock get weak. Trying to explain that to my own friends usually gets a blank stare lol.
