Found a stat that blew my mind on AI energy usage

I was reading this report from the International Energy Agency last week. Turns out a single ChatGPT query uses about 10 times more electricity than a Google search. That adds up fast when millions of people use it daily. Never thought about the power cost behind those instant answers. Anyone else looked into what this means for the grid long term?

That whole thing is a perfect example of how we keep adding invisible costs to everyday life without thinking about it. It reminds me of how everything gets more complicated and energy heavy over time, like how nobody used to need a heated steering wheel or a 80 inch TV but here we are. You tap your phone a few times and there's a whole power plant's worth of workers sweating somewhere to make that happen. These small conveniences add up into something huge when you pull back the lens far enough.

Honestly I gotta push back on that a bit. Sure, heated steering wheels and huge TVs are extra, but theyre not the real problem. The real jump in energy use came from stuff like central AC and always-on internet networks, not luxury add-ons. If you look at it, a lot of these 'invisible costs' are actually paying for cleaner tech and better efficiency. Like, a modern data center uses way more power than an old one, but it also serves way more people with less waste per click. Its not all bad, you know?
