My smart fridge tried to order 12 gallons of milk because it thought my cat was a baby

Last week, my new fridge with a built-in AI camera decided to 'help' with grocery shopping. It saw my cat, Mittens, jump on the counter and stare at an empty milk carton. The AI must have thought she was a small child looking for food, because two days later, I got a delivery notification for a huge bulk order of milk from the connected store. I had to call and cancel 12 gallons of 2% milk that were already on a truck! The whole thing was so silly. I guess the vision model got confused by shapes and movement. Has anyone else had their home AI make a really funny mistake like that?

Oh man, that's a privacy nightmare waiting to happen. Your fridge's camera isn't just seeing shapes, it's sending that image data out to some company's server to figure out what it is. What else is it seeing and saving? Your entire kitchen layout, maybe even a glimpse of that mail on the counter.
