The moment I realized my prompt engineering was backwards

I spent about 6 months writing super detailed prompts with exact formatting and step by step rules, like I was talking to a stubborn intern. Then last week I watched a coworker just say "make this email sound friendlier" and the AI nailed it way better than my 300 word prompt ever did. Anyone else have that humbling moment where simpler input just worked, or was I the only one overthinking this whole time?

Honestly, it took me way too long to learn the same lesson. I used to write these massive prompts with all these rules and examples, and half the time the AI would just get confused by the extra stuff. Now I just say what I actually want in plain words and it works like 90% better. It’s humbling to realize you were the problem the whole time, not the tool. Tbh, the simpler I get, the smarter the AI seems to get.
