TIL I actually prefer running AI image gen locally over cloud services

I spent over a year using Midjourney and DALL-E for my side project stuff, paying around $30 a month for the privilege. Last month I finally set up Stable Diffusion on my own rig with a GTX 3060, and honestly the control I have over the outputs is way more useful to me than the polished look from cloud services. Sure, it takes longer to render and I had to learn some command line stuff, but I can tweak models and prompts infinitely without a subscription fee. Has anyone else found that local models work better for their specific use case, or am I just being stubborn about the extra setup?

My buddy Matt switched to running local models last month after his kid accidentally ran up a $200 Midjourney bill playing with prompts. He's got a crusty old 1080 Ti and just messes with it for D&D character art now, says he likes being able to mess up ten times in a row without paying for the privilege.

My coworker Dave fried a 2060 pulling hero portraits for his Pathfinder campaign.
