Watched a Google AI talk at a small conference in Austin last week

Some guy from their DeepMind team showed a prototype that could predict protein folding in real time on a normal laptop, not a supercomputer. Has anyone else seen these offline demos actually work better than the hype online?

And those offline demos always reveal the real bugs that polished online presentations conveniently hide.

Pulled this exact move at a conference last year - demo worked perfectly in my hotel room the night before, then crashed so hard on stage that the projector went to a blue screen. @alex524 you hit it right on the head. I swear my laptop knows when it's in front of an audience and just decides to act up. It's like it saves up all its glitches for the one person standing there sweating through their shirt. Nothing humbles you faster than watching your code freeze mid-sentence while everyone stares.

Oh man, nothing says "trust the technology" like a live demo that dies on its feet.
