My first air fryer disaster involved frozen fries and a smoke alarm

I was in my old apartment in Columbus, maybe three years back. Just got the air fryer and was too excited to read the manual. Threw a whole bag of frozen fries in there, way over the basket line. Five minutes in, the smoke alarm starts screaming. Opened it up and the fries on top were totally black, the ones underneath were still frozen. The whole place smelled like burnt oil for a week. I learned you have to shake the basket, and never fill it past halfway. Now I do small batches and it's perfect. Anyone have a good trick for getting that burnt smell out of the machine itself?
