3 years ago I swore off torque wrenches for good, last Tuesday in Wichita a gearbox bolt changed that
Back when I was green I overtorqued a flap actuator bolt and stripped the threads, so I told everybody I'd just feel bolts by hand from then on. Fast forward to last Tuesday at our hangar in Wichita, a guy named Del was torquing a gearbox mount on a King Air and showed me his wrench had been dropped twice and still hit 180 inch pounds dead on when we checked it on the bench. Turned out my problem was never the tool, it was me not reading the manual for the right spec. Anybody else got a story about a tool they hated until they figured out they were the problem?
