My old way of dealing with a moose in the yard versus my new way
I used to just stand on the porch in Fairbanks and yell at them, which never worked. Then last fall, one named Marvin decided my apple tree was a salad bar and wouldn't leave for three days. Now I keep an air horn by the door, and one quick blast sends them trotting off. What's your best trick for a stubborn moose that won't take a hint?

Ever try a super soaker? Sounds silly but it works. Moose really hate getting hit with a cold stream of water. It doesn't hurt them, just annoys them enough to move along. I had to do it a few times last spring and now they avoid my yard.

Yeah, the super soaker trick is solid. I had a moose that kept eating my apple tree saplings and a good blast from the hose did the job. It just has to be a surprise, like @wood.john said. They give you this look of pure insult and then wander off. Much better than trying to yell or get close. You just have to be ready with it hooked up and decent water pressure.

Read something online about someone using a paintball gun on a bear. Not sure how smart that is but a super soaker or hose sounds way safer. You definitely don't want to actually hurt them, just make your yard unappealing. Getting the timing right seems key so they associate the discomfort with your place.
