Snowmachine died 40 miles out, had to walk back in the dark

Last month my 2007 Ski-Doo threw a drive belt near the Susitna River crossing on my way back from a moose hunt. I had a spare but no tools to swap it, so I hoofed it 3 hours back to the truck in waist-deep powder. Now I carry a small ratchet set and an extra belt in my pack, has anyone else been caught out like that?
