Used to hand tighten my swamp cooler every fall like clockwork

Growing up, I'd spend an hour with a wrench on that roof in October, but last year I threw a $40 smart switch on it and now my phone tells me when to drain it. Has anyone else switched to smart controls for their ABQ coolers?

Blink twice if you just casually mentioned controlling your swamp cooler with a phone. I've been doing this for thirty years and the idea of an app telling me when to drain just sounds like science fiction. I keep thinking about the reliability since those smart switches can fail and then you'd have a flooded mess. Also what happens if your wifi goes out during a monsoon? I'm old school enough to trust my fingers on a valve more than a signal from the router. But I will admit the convenience sounds nice for folks who don't want to climb up there every fall.
