Appreciation post: Dubbed anime vs. subbed - I switched sides
I used to be a sub-only guy for years, thought dubs were trash. Then I watched Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood dubbed last year on a whim, and Vic Mignogna's performance as Edward changed my mind completely. Now I give every dub a 3-episode chance before deciding. Has anyone else flipped their stance on this?

So my buddy Mike was the same way, swore up and down subs were the only way. He literally laughed at me when I told him I was watching Cowboy Bebop dubbed. Then his sister made him watch the Psycho-Pass dub because she said the English cast was stacked. He gave in after a week of her bugging him about it. First episode he was like "okay fine it's decent" but by episode 5 he was texting me about how the main guy's voice actor sounded way more natural than the Japanese one. Now he's all about checking dubs first for anything that came out after 2010.

The 3-episode rule is actually a good standard, I do the same thing now for newer shows. To be honest it’s usually just a director and casting issue, not the voice actors’ fault - a bad dub is mostly from bad direction.
