Dub vs sub debate got heated at Anime Expo 2023 and I still don't know where I stand
I was at a panel in LA last July where someone literally stood up and yelled that dubs ruin the integrity of the original work. Another guy shot back that not everyone can read subtitles and enjoy the animation at the same time. It split the whole room right down the middle and I sat there confused because I honestly like both depending on the show. Does the language track really change your whole experience of a series or is it just personal preference?

Bring up how some shows intentionally change dialogue between language tracks to dodge censorship rules.

Man dubs vs subs is such a weird argument when you think about it. I remember watching Dragon Ball Z on Toonami as a kid and loving the English voices, then years later I tried the Japanese audio and it felt like a completely different show with different emotions and pacing. For me it depends on the series and what I'm trying to get out of it, like for slow slice of life shows I actually prefer dubs because I can look at the backgrounds and details without missing stuff. But for action heavy stuff with a lot of yelling I get why people want the original voice actors.
