I just found out the original Sailor Moon anime had over 200 episodes

I was looking up some old shows on a fan wiki the other day and saw the total count. I always thought it was a long series, but I figured maybe 100 episodes or so. Seeing the number 200 made me stop. That's a lot of content for one story. I watched a bunch as a kid on TV, but they never showed the whole thing here. It makes me wonder how much I actually missed. I guess shows back then just kept going if people liked them. Has anyone here sat down and watched the entire original run from start to finish?

Actually, it's a bit more than that if you count the movies and specials. The main show had 200 episodes, but there were three short films and a couple of made-for-TV specials too. So the total watch time is even longer.

Honestly, I see it the other way around. The 200 episodes sounds like a lot, but the original anime had tons of filler and repeated story beats. In my experience, a huge chunk of that count is monster-of-the-week stuff that doesn't move the main plot forward much. You could probably skip a bunch and not miss the core story. It feels long because they stretched the manga material so thin to keep it on the air.
