I just hit 500 episodes watched on my tracker and it made me rethink my whole anime taste
I was checking my stats on AniList last night and saw the total episode count. For years, I stuck mostly to action shonen and the big name stuff. I thought slice of life was boring and romance was just fluff. But looking at the list, almost 200 of those episodes are from shows I tried on a whim in the last year, like 'Yuru Camp' and 'Skip and Loafer'. I started one just as background noise, but I got totally hooked on the calm vibe and real characters. It completely changed what I look for in a show now. I used to only care about fights and plot twists. Now I get just as excited about good character moments in a quiet cafe scene. Has anyone else had a genre they avoided for years suddenly click after giving it a real shot?

Wait, is it really that deep though? It's just TV shows at the end of the day. You liked some new stuff, cool. I've tried a few of those calm shows and they just put me to sleep (literally, I use them for background noise too).

Lol yeah you're right, it's not that deep. But honestly I've started using those sleepy shows as a secret weapon for my terrible sleep schedule.

That's actually a really normal thing to happen as you get older. I see it with music and books all the time, not just shows. Your taste just gets wider because you've seen so much of one thing, you start to notice the craft in the quieter stuff. It's less about needing a big thrill and more about appreciating a well made moment, even a small one.
