One comment about my pacing changed how I watch every show now
I used to speed through anime at 1.5x speed just to get through my backlog, I had like 40 shows sitting in my plan to watch list. Last month someone in a discord server told me I was basically reading a summary instead of watching a story, they said to try one episode at normal speed with no other screens open. I picked a slower show, Mushishi, and man, the atmosphere actually hit me way harder than any action scene from the stuff I was rushing. Now I watch everything at 1x and drop shows more often instead of forcing them, my list is smaller but I actually remember what happened. Anyone else have a viewing habit that got called out and totally flipped their experience? What show did you test it on?
That line about reading a summary instead of watching a story really stuck with me, because it points at something bigger than just speed. Once you stop rushing, you also start noticing how much of a show's mood lives in the quiet parts, the pauses, the background noise, stuff that gets totally lost when you're skipping ahead. I tested it on Serial Experiments Lain and had no clue what I'd been missing, that show is built on slow dread and you flat out can't feel it at 1.5x.
