An old timer at a parts counter in Tucson told me to stop swapping whole control boards
Stopped by a supply house on Speedway Blvd to grab a bake element and got talking to a guy who has been in the trade 31 years. He said most boards he sees get replaced only have one bad relay or a blown fuse, and he has been fixing them at the bench with a $40 soldering iron for a decade. I tried it on a Whirlpool oven board that was dead and found a burnt trace I would have never looked at before, jumped it, and the thing fired right up. Now I am wondering how many boards I have thrown in the trash over the years that just needed 10 minutes and a little solder. Anyone here actually repairing boards instead of swapping them, and what iron are you using?
