Called smart home tech a gimmick for years...
Then I wired up a client's house in Tulsa with zoned mini-splits that talk to their thermostat and saw their August electric bill drop by $140. Any of you guys actually using this stuff for serious HVAC savings?

The real savings come from zoning, not the smart features themselves... nobody talks about how much you save just by not heating or cooling empty rooms.

Oh man, I'm still not fully sold on this stuff being a game-changer. Sure, zoning helps, but @jesse773 is right that the smart features are just dressing on top of that, not the main event. Maybe I'm just old school, but I'd rather spend that money on better insulation than a fancy thermostat that talks to my couch.
