I finally spent 3 hours chasing a fridge leak that turned out to be a $2 gasket

Was it worth the time or should I have just replaced the whole seal from the start? This Frigidaire from 2019 was dripping behind the crisper drawer and I pulled the whole back panel off before I saw the rubber was just seated wrong. Has anyone else run into a fix that looked way bigger than it actually was?

Did you at least try snapping it back in place before you pulled the whole back panel off? Sometimes those rubber gaskets just need a firm push to reseat, no tools needed. I've definitely done the same thing though, spent an hour taking apart a dishwasher pump only to find a piece of broken glass stuck in the seal. Makes you feel pretty dumb but at least you fixed it right?

You really think that's the right call for every situation though? I've had rubber gaskets that looked fine but after a closer look the lip was actually torn or compressed in the wrong spot. Pushing on it just made the leak worse in my case. Maybe it depends on the age of the machine or how long the gasket has been sitting there. Not saying you're wrong, but I wouldn't bet my floorboards on a firm push fixing it every time.
