Tried using a hairdryer to unstick a fridge ice maker jam instead of taking it apart

Had a Frigidaire in a rental in Cleveland that kept freezing up in the ice maker chute. I spent an hour trying to get the housing off when my partner joked about melting it. Grabbed my wife's cheap Conair dryer, blasted it on low heat for 2 minutes, and the whole thing cleared right up. Has anyone else found a dumb household tool that actually saved the day?
