That maple clocked me good last Tuesday
I was trimming a big silver maple near Lincoln, Nebraska last week. Had a 6 inch limb come down wrong. Sliced right through my saddle strap. Landed on my leg, bruised it up pretty bad. 3 years ago I would have kept climbing. Now at 45 I take a minute to reset. My ground guy Bobby said, "You okay up there?" I said no, I'm coming down. Swapped out my saddle after that. Anyone else switching to a harness with backup attachment points?

And maple trees wonder why we call them "soft" maples, right? That six inch limb clearly has it out for you and your saddle straps. Glad you and Bobby are both smart enough to take the L and live to climb another day.

You know what this reminds me of is that one time my buddy Dave had a 4 foot limb come down right on his truck bed while we were loading ropes after a removal. Total fluke, wind was calm, tree looked sound. dented the hell out of his tailgate. We stood there staring at it for a solid minute before he just said "well, guess it's a sign we should quit for the day." Sometimes the tree wins and you just gotta pack up and get a burger instead of pushing your luck.
