Used to spend 20 minutes clearing a throwline by hand, now a big shot saves my shoulder
For my first three seasons I just chucked the bag and untangled knots by hand every single time it snagged, usually on the same maple at the Jensen job on 4th Street. Bought a Big Shot about a year ago and now most of my initial sets are one and done, maybe two shots on a windy day. My shoulder quit aching on Monday mornings and I get up the tree about 10 minutes faster. Curious what you all use for those really wide, bushy canopies where the throw weight keeps grabbing twigs.
Man, 20 minutes of hand clearing every single snag? That would've driven me up a wall, especially on the same maple over and over at the Jensen job. I can't believe you stuck with that for three full seasons before getting a Big Shot, my arm would've quit on me by week two. Ten minutes faster and no Monday shoulder ache sounds like money well spent. For those wide bushy canopies I've had luck going with a lighter weight on windy days so it drops through the twigs instead of wrapping them. Sometimes aiming past the branch I actually want and letting it fall back into the crotch beats trying to thread it clean.
