Why does nobody talk about how much a climbing saw teaches you about tree lean
Had a removal on a big silver maple out in Spokane two days ago. Guy I was working with, 20 years in, hands me his top handle for the canopy work and says "watch which way she pulls before you cut anything." I always thought lean was something you checked from the ground and that was it. But up in the tree with that little saw you feel it. Every cut tells you where the weight is sitting. Spent the whole afternoon just reading the wood instead of guessing. That one sentence changed how I look at every climb now.
Any of you get taught lean from up in the canopy instead of from the ground? Curious how other folks learned it.
