Just lost $200 on a fake Roman coin I bought online for my collection
The seller swore it was from a dig site near Pompeii, but my local museum confirmed it's a modern cast. Anyone know reliable dealers for actual artifacts?

Check the seller's other items too. If they're suddenly selling a dozen "rare" coins from different time periods, that's another giveaway. @jordancoleman is totally right about the moon rock thing, it's the same playbook. I got burned on a Civil War button that way, the guy had a whole storefront of "rare" stuff from every major battle. Real collections don't look like a gift shop. Stick with dealers who have a clear focus and can show where stuff came from before they got it.

Wait, they actually said it was from a dig site near Pompeii? That's a huge red flag right there. Most real finds from controlled sites go to museums, not random online sellers. It's like someone trying to sell you "authentic moon rocks" from their backyard. You have to be so careful with those big name places.
