Spotted a old stone wall on a hike in Vermont that looked out of place
I was hiking near Stowe last weekend and came across a low stone wall running through the middle of the woods, way off any trail. It was covered in moss but the stones were stacked too neatly to be natural, almost like a small boundary marker. Has anyone else stumbled across old walls or structures in unexpected places like that?

Could that wall be an old property line from the 1800s? Vermont had a lot of small farms back then that got abandoned when people moved west. I found a similar wall near Killington once and a local told me it marked where a pasture ended and the woods began. Those stones probably kept cows from wandering into the neighbor's land.

Oh man, I totally thought those walls were just random junk piles people made while clearing rocks. Your explanation makes way more sense though, I never connected them to property lines.
