That $300 metal detector I bought turned out to be junk
I got into the hobby of field searching after reading about some Roman coin hoards in the UK. Spent like $300 on a cheap detector from Amazon based on some reviews that were probably fake. Thing couldn't pick up a copper penny an inch deep in my own yard. Took it to a known old homestead site and got nothing but false signals for 3 hours. Anybody else get burned by one of these budget detectors before I drop more cash on a real one?

Got ripped off on a $150 "professional grade" one off Facebook. Couldn't find a buried soda can in my own backyard.

Man, that's rough. @loganburns sounds like you got one of those cheap knockoffs that can't even find rebar, let alone a soda can.
