TIL the number of shipwrecks in Lake Superior alone is way higher than I thought

I was reading a paper on underwater archaeology in the Great Lakes, and it said there are over 550 shipwrecks in Lake Superior. That number surprised me because I always figured most wrecks were in the ocean. Makes you wonder how many more are still undiscovered out there. Anyone know of a good database that tracks these?

Whoa wait, 550 wrecks? That's a crazy number. @stone.jesse I knew there were a lot of old shipwrecks out there but I didn't realize it was that many just in one area. It's wild to think about all those stories just sitting on the bottom of the ocean, totally untouched. Are any of them famous ones or just random fishing boats and stuff? I bet there are some really interesting ones down there that nobody even knows about yet.
