Got into it with a neighbor over parking spots and now I'm second-guessing myself
So I live on this narrow street in Portland where parking is a nightmare. Last Tuesday my neighbor Dave came out yelling that I was saving a spot for my girlfriend's car with a trash can. I told him I wasn't saving it, I just put the can there after pickup and hadn't moved it yet. He said I was lying and that everyone on the block hates people who save spots. I told him it's not illegal to put a trash can on the curb for a few hours. He said it's about common courtesy, not the law. We went back and forth for like 10 minutes. Now I'm wondering if I was actually being a jerk or if he was just having a bad day. Has anyone else had this kind of street parking argument? Where do you draw the line between being technically right and being a decent neighbor?

Ended up just walking over and saying "hey, rough morning?" to my neighbor the next day. Let him vent for a minute and it totally diffused the whole thing.

Yeah totally, I did the same thing with my neighbor over a fence line once... worked like magic.
