Picked vinyl siding over brick veneer in 2019, now I question it every spring

Back when I redid my split level in Akron, I had a hard choice between real brick veneer at $14,000 and good vinyl at $6,200. I went vinyl because the budget was tight after the roof. Five years later, a hailstorm put a crack near the gutter and the color faded a bit on the south wall. The brick would have held up better but I also would have eaten ramen for a year to afford it. My neighbor went brick and his place looks sharp, but he complains about efflorescence stains. Do you factor in future maintenance when you pick siding, or is the upfront price always the deciding thing for you?
