Spent $180 on a language app and my progress is embarrassing

I signed up for a 12 month subscription to a fancy language learning app back in January, thinking it would finally make me fluent in Spanish before my summer trip to Oaxaca. Eight months later I can barely order a taco without pointing at the menu, and the app keeps sending me achievement badges like that makes up for it. Anyone else paid big money for one of these apps and gotten way less than they expected?
