TIL how different coffee tastes after 3 weeks off

I quit caffeine cold turkey for a month. Just to see what would happen. Day 21 I had a cup from that little roaster on Main Street in Portland. Tasted like actual fruit and chocolate instead of just brown bitter water. My palate reset or something. Anyone else notice how dull your taste gets when you drink coffee every single day?

Huh, you really think drinking it every day makes your taste go dull? I mean, I get the palate reset thing, but I feel like if you get good beans and brew it right, you can taste the fruit and chocolate notes even if you drink it daily. Maybe the issue is more about what you're drinking instead of how often. A lot of people just grab whatever cheap dark roast and call it a day, that stuff will taste like dirt no matter what. But take a light roast from a local place, and I can pick up those flavors even on my third cup of the morning.

My buddy Rob got into specialty coffee last year and swore by this Ethiopian light roast he'd order online. Drank it every morning for like 3 months straight and said he could still taste the blueberry notes clear as day until the batch ran out. So I think you're right that if the beans are legit and you brew them right, daily drinking doesn't kill the flavor.
