I used to think those 'backyard' Jupiter photos were all fake

My buddy in Tucson showed me his $800 telescope setup and the raw files, and the detail was real. Anyone else have a moment like that with a specific target?

Was it one of those small refractor telescopes? My uncle got me into this years ago by showing me Saturn through his old scope. The rings looked so clear it felt like a sticker someone put on the lens, totally changed my mind about what you can see from a driveway.
