I started wearing noise cancelling headphones at the grocery store and it changed everything
I got a pair of Loop earplugs about three weeks ago after seeing people talk about them online. I wore them to my local Kroger on a busy Saturday, which usually leaves me totally fried. This time, I could still hear the cashier but the cart noises and music were just gone. I didn't realize how much energy I was spending just filtering out that background hum. I got home and still had the mental space to cook dinner, which never happens after a big shop. Has anyone else found a specific tool or trick that cuts down on sensory overload in public places?

Oh man, I feel that so hard. I grabbed some cheap ones from the pharmacy on a whim, and just wearing them at the hardware store makes it feel like a different world. That constant buzz just... stops.

I saw a guy at the grocery store last week just staring at the cereal boxes for a full minute, totally calm. He was wearing those same cheap earplugs. It's like we've all been living with this low grade noise pollution for years and didn't even fully notice until it was gone. @johnthompson, that hardware store feeling is everywhere now. The hum of freezers, the chatter in a cafe, even the sound of my own keyboard. Turning it down feels less like blocking the world out and more like finally being able to hear yourself think.
