I always thought the John Muir Trail was overhyped until I did the section from Yosemite to Devil's Postpile last July
The water crossings alone changed my mind, especially that knee-deep one near the Island Pass junction where I slipped on a rock and ended up with my boots soaked for two days straight anyone else have a section of trail that totally flipped their opinion?

Wait you got YOUR boots soaked and still think the trail is underrated? I did that same crossing and spent the next two days smelling like a wet dog that fell in a swamp. Some people say the views make up for it, I say dry socks are the REAL highlight.

My buddy Mike tried that crossing last fall and ended up with waterlogged boots for THREE days because he forgot to pack extra socks. He said his feet looked like prunes and the squishing sound followed him EVERYWHERE, even when he stopped walking. @baker.ben you would have laughed seeing him try to dry them over a campfire, he nearly melted the soles off. He still says the trail was worth it though, even with the swamp dog smell clinging to his gear the whole trip.
