Took the wrong trail split on Mount Whitney last weekend. Cost me 3 extra miles.
I was following AllTrails and missed a wooden marker near Trail Camp. Went straight instead of left. Ended up on some climber's bypass route. Had to backtrack through loose scree. Has anyone else had AllTrails send them the wrong way on a well marked trail?

Oh come on, man. You really blaming this one on AllTrails? That wooden marker has been there longer than most of us have been hiking. I've taken that trail a dozen times and it's pretty obvious where the split is. Look, apps are handy but they're not a replacement for paying attention to your surroundings. Three extra miles sucks for sure, but that's on you for trusting your phone more than your eyes.

Three extra miles sounds brutal, but grant.jason has a point. I see this same thing everywhere nowadays where people blame the tool instead of their own choices. It's like the GPS sending you down a one way street and you just follow it instead of looking at the actual road signs.
