I finally get why the dad in Interstellar yells about the dust, because my own filter clogged last Tuesday
My furnace filter was so packed with dust last Tuesday that my CO2 monitor in the hallway read 1,400 ppm, and I stood there thinking about how the movie treats blight like some slow monster. Then it hit me that the film never shows anyone changing a filter, they just wear masks and act sad about corn. I vacuumed mine and the reading dropped to 600 in an hour, which is honestly more science than the whole third act of that movie. Does the dust in Interstellar bug anyone else, or is it just me being a nerd about HVAC?
Had the same thing happen with my old place, the filter was so gray it looked like felt and my cheap air monitor went nuts too. What worked for me was setting a phone reminder every 60 days (I know, riveting stuff) and switching to the cheap fiberglass ones since my system seems to choke on the fancy thick ones. The drop you saw is real though, mine went from around 1,200 down near 700 once things actually moved air again. Meanwhile those folks in the movie are breathing straight topsoil for years and nobody once thinks to check a filter, which is wild when you think about it.
