Unpopular opinion: I saw a bakery in Seattle using pre-made dough and calling it 'artisan'

I was at a spot in Pike Place Market last week and saw them pulling frozen, pre-portioned cookie dough from a box in the back. They're charging $4.50 a cookie and marketing them as small-batch and hand-crafted, which feels wrong to me. Where do you draw the line between using a time-saver and being dishonest with customers?

Remember my buddy got a "custom" deck built last year. The contractor showed him pictures of this beautiful hand-cut cedar work, then just slapped down a bunch of pre-made composite sections from a big box store. Charged him a fortune for "custom craftsmanship" too. It's the same thing, calling something fancy when you just opened a box. If you're gonna charge top dollar, the work should actually be in the building, not just on the label.

Okay but sometimes that "pre-made composite" is actually way better than a custom job. A lot of those big box kits are engineered to last and come with real warranties. A contractor cutting cedar on site can mess up the sealing or the structure. Paying for their learning curve with your deck isn't a bargain either. You're often just paying extra for the chance it might rot in five years.
